I love sewing. I love the adrenaline I have when I see a material.Especialy when I think of several crafts I can produce from them.
The love for sewing or having a sewing Talent is not enough to jump and get a sewing machine . It is best to First find out what you need to learn as a beginner.

SELECTING YOUR SEWING MACHINE
Before selecting the kind of sewing machine to buy ,it is best to first decide what sort of Sewing you want to do .
Do you want to sew as a hobby or as a business . Are you going to be creating craft gifts for your family and friends or are you going to be making some accessories for your home. Accessories like blinds ,pillows bed sheets Etc.
When I first decided to buy my sewing machine,I only wanted to use it as a hobby.As time went on however,I turned my hobby into an online fashion business.
THE DIFFERENT SEWING MACHINES
There are different types of sewing machines.Some are purely for home use,and some for industrial purposes to produce cloths in large scale. There are also a lot of sewing machines in the market today. Some quite cheap and affordable, others very pricey and computerized.
Best place to buy a machine is from a reputable independent sewing machine dealer. They tend to have a lot of knowledge about their products .Some can even offer free sewing lessons.
Another thing to consider when buying a sewing machine is how much sewing you intend to do , and what kind of designs you want the machine to do.
7 OTHER THINGS TO LOOK OUT FOR WHEN SELECTING YOUR SEWING MACHINE
Now you have selected the sewing machine you want to buy . The next step is to test drive the machine. Sit
down and sew a few seams. Check the straight stitches for Stitch quality . Check the buttonhole ,zig zag, and decorative stitches .
Check the ease-of-use.Sew also on various weights of fabrics .
This is very important. When I bought my first singer tabletop machine I had a lot of challenges sewing very thick materials . If I had checked then for the ease-of-use, I will not have bought it. The two sewing machines I use today are Singer Heavy duty 442 and and Janome. sewing machine

There are lots of multifunction computerized machines out there that look beautiful and sophisticated . That notwithstanding ,they will only cause you a lot of frustrations as a beginner.

RESEARCH AND FIND THE BEST SEWING MACHINES FOR THE BEGINNER
Apart from my recommendations above, you can also do your own research. Search online , ask people that sew, get information on the best make or model of sewing machines most suitable for the beginner .
As a beginner you require a machine with basic range of stitches .
That does not mean you should buy a cheap plastic sewing machine. The machine you buy should be strong and durable .

CONSIDER THE KIND OF PROJECTS YOU WILL BE DOING.
If you want to be making bags and wallets like me, or other projects with weighty Fabrics ,don’t buy a light plastic sewing machine. This will frustrate all your sewing efforts. For such projects ,you need a sturdier machine
HOW BIG AND HEAVY IS THE MACHINE.
This factor may not seem important. It however will become useful to consider if you have to carry the machine for a fashion fair. Also if you have to put the machine away when you don’t want to use it.
I will advise you to try lifting your machines before buying to have a feel of the weight. You can also check weigh listed before buying online.
If however you have a fixed place for the machine, then go for a heavier quality sewing machine made with metal.
WHAT IS YOUR BUDGET
A lot is tied to how much you have to give out for your sewing machine. If you have a low budget, you might not afford high-end machines .But that should not worry you.
There are still some sewing machine for light to medium weight work that cost between €250-€450.This however is a rough guide. HEAVY duty Machines cost €500 and above. The sewing machine I use presently to make cloths and bags cost under €350.

If you don’t have up to 200 to 300 Euros for a good machine it’s better to wait and save up the money
it might not be too good for you in the long run to buy a cheap plastic sewing machine. Such machines do not last long
you might end up buying another one pretty soon believe me I’m speaking from experience.

what goal do you have planned when it comes to your sewing? what Advanced sewing courses do you intend to take in future?These are still important questions you should consider when choosing your sewing machine. That is why sometimes it may be better to buy from a dealership than a big store. That’s because a dealerships shop is likely to offer trade-ins and trade ,-ups.
This possibility is very useful in case you cannot afford to buy a machine that will remain useful to you with added sewing experience.
