DIFFERENT TYPES OF SEWING THREADS AND THEIR USES:

There is no sewing without sewing threads.

and there are many types of sewing threads used in the industry to make different materials.

In this blog post, we’ll cover different types of sewing threads and their uses.

Do you know the difference between all of those different types of sewing threads? It’s important to know what type to use in order to produce the best possible outcome.

Threads can be categorized based on their composition including natural fibers, synthetic fibers or a combination of both.

The most common type is cotton thread.

This comes from cotton plant fibres.,normally spun into yarns to produce strong yet lightweight threads with high tensile strength.

Before I get into the different types of sewing threads and their uses lets aswer a few questions.

HOW DO YOU CHOOSE A SEWING THREAD?

There are a lot of things to consider when choosing a sewing thread for your sewing project.

Most important however is the kind of fabric you have chosen for the project.

And secondly the kind of project you want to carry out.

The thread is normally the same size, weight, and properties as the fabric you’re sewing on.

Place the thread across your fabric to find the right color.

The thread should blend/disappear into the fabric.

You can choose the dominant color if your fabric is multicolored or printed in a few different colors.
It is however best if the thread content matches the fabric content.

That is cotton thread for natural fibers, polyester thread for synthetic blend fabrics.
Look for a smooth, nub-free strand that doesn’t twist easily and is mostly fuzz-free for general machine sewing.

The practical video below clearly illustrates how to choose your sewing thread.
