CUTTING THE LOWER FLAY OF OUR AFRICAN SKIRT(011)

You will need close to 2 yards of material to cut the flay although this also depends on how much of a flay you really need.fold your material into for folds .Measure the length of your knee to your heel, and note it and the circumference of your knee and also note it.On the folded side of the material mark the number of inches of your knee circumference divided by 4.example if your knee circumference is 40 inches ,you will mark 10 inches on the folded part of the material. If the lenght from your knee to your heel is 20 inches.you will then mark 20 inches intermittently to get a curve .and then cut along the curve.watch the video carefully to get a picture of what I am saying.

We are only given measurements to follow. And map out on our pattern paper taking note of the fact that one half of the pattern that will serve as the sleeve is shaded  meaning that it will serve as the facing for the sleeve. TIPS BEFORE TRACING UPPER FRONT PART OF OUR SUNDRESS

We will begin our journey in tracing the top front piece of our sundress, by bringing to your attention little but important points that must be observed when enlarging the pattern .Take note of the dots that make up the darts and make sure you align your lutterloh tape very carefully especially observing dots with double numbers on the same line. Also take note of the alphabets on the original pattern.
You can find out the meaning of each alphabet on page eight of the lutterloh catalog.Notice also that not all lines are straight some are disjointed .disjointed lines means that that area is where the material to be used is folded.while straight lines mean the side of the material that should be cut.The video below illustrates more.HAPPY CUTTING.

CUTTING THE FRONT PIECE OF OUR WAIST COAT

In my last posting we have finished tracing and cutting our front and back pattern pieces, we have illustrated our darts and alphabets according to how it is written on the pattern.
Now we are ready to place  our patterns on our cloth to do the cutting. Remember that the finished paper pattern does not include seam and hem allowance. Allow approximately 1--2cm for seams and 5--7cm for hems. You can also adjust the length to suite your individual taste. PLEASE NOTE THAT YOU SHOULD ALWAYS CHECK PATTERN FOR CORRECT FIT  BEFORE CUTTING THE FABRICK
The same pattern will be used to make facings ,linings and under collars. Watch the video below and see how we place our pattern on our cloth to cut.
HAPPY CUTTING.

ENLARGING THE BACK PIECE OF THE WAIST COAT PATTERN

In my last posting, we traced and enlarged the front piece of our waist coat .in this video we are going to enlarge the back piece of our waist coat .try to ensure that  all the dots are joined together if a dot is out of line ,re-align the dot ,according to the pattern diagram.
connect all dots with the special acrylic curves .Draw straight lines first using the straight edge of the ruler and use the curved section to draw armholes and the neckline

After all dots are connected remember to transfer all symbols from the pattern diagram onto your own pattern.
Then remove the pattern diagram and mark the pin hole. This is where the pattern can be adjusted for short waisted and long waisted bodies.HAPPY TRACING.

JOINING THE PATTERN DOTS TOGETHER

In my last post, I traced and enlarged the front piece of the waist coat In this next video illustration,I am going to  join the dots together.this is when the acrylic rulers become useful expecialy the neck curve and the armhole curve.Care must be taken when joining the dots expecially the dots for the darts.that is why the original pattern must be in front of you so that while joining the dots you will be able to compare the final picture of your pattern with the original.HAPPY TRACING .

TRACING AND ENLARGING THE FRONT PART OF WAIST COAT PATTERN

Now that we have cut off the front part of the pattern for the waist coat from our photocopied pattern sheet, we are now ready to enlarge the pattern.so we will place our cut piece on our cutting board or table whichever one is more comfortable for you and use a transparent cello-tape which comes as part of the lutterloh system, to ensure that the pattern piece is held steady in one place. Before starting to trace , remember that all numbers for tracing from the burst to the top, the sleaves etc are always traced using the burst measurement .while the numbers from the waist downwards and trousers ,skirts etc are traced using the hips measurement all this is illustrated in the video .HAPPY TRACING WITH LUTTERLOH.
